Michael Bevan, PhD, is Deputy Director and a Strategic Programme Leader at the John Innes Centre in Norwich UK. His research interests involve developing structural and functional genomics resources for plants, including Arabidopsis and wheat, and in genetic and biochemical analysis of growth control pathways in Arabidopsis. Currently he is collaborating with The Genome Analysis Centre in Norwich to establish a high-quality draft sequence of the bread wheat genome and to explore differences in gene expression between the genomes of an elite variety and their diploid progenitors. This will help define the influences of polyploidy on gene expression. In Arabidopsis he is working understanding the mechanisms of members of the DA1 family of peptidases in growth control with the aim of using this knowledge to increase crop yields.
