| Biography: | |
| Dr. Sofie Van Landeghem holds a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, both obtained at Ghent University, Belgium. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher within the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology lab of Prof. Dr. Yves Van de Peer at Ghent University and the VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology, while maintaining a close collaboration with the BioNLP group of the University of Turku, Finland. Her main research focus concerns large-scale approaches to harvest information from unstructured biomedical articles. These text mining algorithms provide the necessary tools to collect and normalize information hidden in the literature, and to further integrate this data with existing knowledge bases and experimental data. Through integrative network biology, pathways and network motifs can further be delineated from these rich data sets, exploring indirect associations and functional annotations to elucidate novel information from these molecular networks. | |
