Umeå University
Sweden
 Biography:
Dr. Nathaniel completed his undergraduate and PhD studies at the University of Southampton, UK. He graduated from his PhD in 2005, during which he studied the genetic architecture and genomic basis of contrasting drought response in poplar species as part of the EU POPYOMICS project. He also worked on projects examining the genetic basis of biomass related traits and the potential of biomass as an energy feedstock in the UK. Nathaniel then moved to the Umeå Plant Science Centre first as a postdoc and, currently, as an assistant professor. He leads the aspen genome project, contributes to the spruce genome project and his group develop the PopGenIE.org and ConGenIE.org web resources. Nathaniel's main interests lie in understanding the genetic basis of variation in complex phenotypic traits within natural populations, for which his group uses Populus tremula as a model system. His group is also contributing to projects linking gene expression to environmental stress and climate change in spruce.
